Advent Trees

We have been working on these all during Advent.  Each morning during Advent the kids would trace their hands on green construction paper.
Some kids I made their hands for them.  They would then pick a different classmate to write a nice note or prayer.

On the final day of Advent at school, we put the hands together to make these beautiful trees.  They finished the trees with sequins for ornaments and a shiny star I found at Dollar General.

A Plump and a Perky Turkey

We are working on contractions this week.  The book below uses a lot of contractions.

We made continuations of the story above by writing a sentence that started with a contraction.

I found many different ways to make turkey's on the internet.  I made a copy of each type of turkey and had the kids draw to find out which type of turkey they would make.  I gave them the materials needed and left it up to them to create.  They really surprised me. Below are some examples.

Magazine turkey, sack turkey, watercolor turkey....

Marker turkey, hat turkey, thumbprint turkey...

Hand turkey, paper plate turkey, fan turkey.

Columbus Day

We looked at non-fiction books about different places in the world.  The kids had to find things they like from the captions in the book.

I found this pattern at www.wildaboutfirsties.blogspot.com

Turkey in disguise

We started by reading "The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog."

I found this pattern at www.wildaboutfirsties.blogspot.com

We wrote persuasive paragraphs trying to convince people to have hot dogs instead of turkey for Thanksgiving.

Mayflower, ahoy!

Found this cute little boat at www.thetoymaker.com

We are thankful for God's creation

We tied the creation chapter in with Thanksgiving.

Goldilocks

The boys made the bears and the girls made the girl.  I got the pattern from www.glyphgirls.com

The firsties had to pretend they were Goldilocks and write a letter of apology.

Scarecrow Week

We read the lonely scarecrow.  The kids were drawing to scarecrow, but I did not get a finished picture.

We watched a video on how to make a scarecrow and the the kids wrote steps on how to make a scarecrow.

Our specials were cancelled so we made scarecrows.  I used bulletin board paper for the bodies and stuffed them with paper from the recycle bin.

1st Graders from Mars

First Graders from Mars
This is a fun book about a Martian boy who misses all the fun things from martiangarten.

I had the kiddos pick one thing they liked about kindergarten that they do not get to do now and one thing the get to try new in first grade.

Here are some of the Martians hanging in the hall for Open House.

Backpack Night

Tonight is the night.   My room is ready just waiting for the kids to show up.

I organized my desktop.  Maybe now I can found my files.

My binders.  These were so handy last year.

For those of you that teach the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, here is my Atrium.  I remove the curtains.

A view from the closet.

Reading Corner. I so need to find another bookshelf

Focus Wall.

Writing Corner.

Trying to find time has been challenging this year.

Mimio Board.

Behavior Chart.

I recovered my table.  I really liked the way it turned out.

Book boxes and math shelf.

Mailboxes and cubbies.

I had to make this pinteresting clock.

This is behind my desk.  I wanted to hide all my teacher books.

And my monster pillow.  I love making a new pillow every year for my chair.
